Stay near Phillip Island or the mainland bridge after the evening viewing. Starting a long unfamiliar drive tired and in the dark is a poor trade for an early morning head start.

Choose one main visit and keep the second brief, or stay overnight if both matter. Confirm any entry or tour booking before making the coach trip.

Keep one or two attractions per day and allow time for transfers. A taxi for an awkward final leg can be a sensible supplement without renting a car for the whole visit.

Break the journey where the stop gives the children time out of the car, not at a mathematically even midpoint. Compare towns by playground, food and room availability.
