Toby Raines

Horticulturist · Fitzroy North, Melbourne, Victoria

Toby turns an eighty-square-metre Fitzroy North rental garden into a high-yield seasonal food system, tracking soil temperatures and heirloom seed yields in a waterproof notebook. He tests companion planting against Melbourne's volatile spring weather and collects spent cafe coffee grounds to fuel hot compost heaps. Tough digging weekends are rewarded with a counter dinner at The Recreation Bistro or late-night pipis at Ling Nan.
